For those of you who don’t know, I’m in the process of starting up an NPO whose goal is to make the hospital stays of long-term patients a little easier.  I have the advantage of being able to pull from personal experience for ideas, thanks to my stay in the ICU and in the chemo ward.  One of the big things that helped in my ICU days was a white board, which I used to communicate after I woke up from surgery.  (I had a ventilator and trach tube in at the time, so talking was out of the question.)    Using it could have been a little easier.  For one thing, the markers only worked when held upright, which wasn’t always easy for me.  They could also be misplaced.  Also, we were constantly looking for tissues or something to clean it off.

So today, as I’m surfing the news sites, I ran across a link for the Boogie Board, an LCD writing tablet.  After writing on it with a stylus, pen cap, fingernail or other hard object (that won’t scratch it), the board can be erased at the push of a button.  I’ll need to look into it a little further, but it looks like it might be a good addition to the UBO wishlist.
